What is Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT)?

EVLT involves inserting a laser fibre through the long saphenous vein and destroying it from inside, the advantages being reduced bruising and less pain in the immediate post-operative period.

Are there any disadvantages?

The main disadvantage with this technique is that further procedures may be required to control superficial veins, the technique can also be associated with scarring.

The treatment is carried out under direction by an experienced interventional radiologist, before carrying out this treatment you will be properly assessed and advised if the treatment is inappropriate.
