Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are dilated blue veins which can be very prominent, ranging from a minor dilatation of a vein less than a millimetre across through to a large bunch of grape-like structures behind the knee.
They can cause discolouration of the skin and ulceration around the ankle, associated symptoms include aching or tingling legs, pain while standing and cramps.
Anyone with varicose veins should receive treatment, irrespective of whether the complaint is purely cosmetic or is combined with other symptoms, as they are a slowly progressive condition which will get worse over time. You should consult your General Practitioner as soon as you can, as the earlier you seek treatment, the better the long term and cosmetic results.
